Homeless Series – Graphite Portrait

by Wendi OBrien
Graphite Homeless Man Praying

This is the first piece in my Homeless Series I am completing over the next few years.

I really enjoyed working on this and loved all the different textures within this piece from the gloves to the head wrap, even the hat and jacket.

Graphite is such a diverse medium and I really enjoy the semi-vintage look it gives.

There is also nowhere to hide with graphite/black and white/monotone artwork since so much of it relies on the proper values to create the depth in the piece.

Studies in these areas can definitely help any artist to improve their value range within their pieces.

Here’s a quick little video you can watch as I complete this graphite piece.
